Project Overview

Williams Metal Fabrications was engaged by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) to manufacture, paint and transport two complete sets of ferry landing structures for locations along the River Murray, supporting ferry operations at Narrung and Tailem Bend.

Each set comprises front, rear and intermediate landing sections, with a total of six components per crossing. These structures form part of the critical infrastructure required for the continuous and safe operation of the River Murray ferry network.

Given the harsh operating environment, durability was a key consideration throughout the project. The landing structures are exposed to high salinity levels and constant moisture, creating conditions that can accelerate steel corrosion. To maximise long-term performance, the project incorporated specialised marine-grade painting systems designed to withstand these demanding conditions.

As each landing was custom manufactured for its specific location, accuracy was also critical. The team worked to achieve the highest possible level of precision throughout fabrication to minimise the risk of misalignment during installation and ensure a smooth fit-up on site.
